YPCS Awarded Children In Need Funding

Young People’s Counselling Service has been awarded funding of £65, 000 from BBC Children in Need to deliver play therapy, counselling and expressive arts over the next 15 months. This will help us to continue to deliver our services in the Whittlesey and Yaxley and also extend our services into the Wisbech area.

Through this funding:

  • 60 children and young people will be able to receive up to 12 sessions of free integrative psychological therapy
  • 62 families of children and young people receiving YPCS services will be able to attend targeted support groups to help them understand the challenges their child faces and how best to support them at home
  • 108 children and young people will able to participate in a programme of expressive arts including art, performance, story telling and music with the added opportunity to achieve an Arts Award.

YPCS Chair of Trustees, Alison Graham said “We are delighted to have been awarded this funding from BBC Children in Need. It will not only support many children, young people and their families, but also enable us to work in partnership with 20Twenty to deliver expressive arts and involve our patron, actor and artist Annabelle Davis, in supporting arts delivery.”

Patrons Meet Garden Designer

Our patrons Warwick and Annabelle Davis also met with artist and garden designer Jeni Cairns, who designed our stunning sensory garden.  This healing space can be used by families between sessions and is such a wonderful addition to the Annabelle Davis Centre.

Thank you to Jeni for all you have done to bring this space to life.

We would also like to give a big thank you to Persimmon Homes and Huntingdonshire District Council for funding our sensory garden. We are very grateful for your kindness and generosity.

Runners Brave Torrential Rain to Run the GER for YPCS

On Sunday, 14th October 2017 YPCS formed its first every running team to run the Perkins Great Eastern Half Marathon & 5km Fun Run. The weather was torrential rain for the entire event but despite the challenging conditions, everyone completed their run.

Supported by Equiniti Plc, who provided the running shirts, the team has already raised over £5,000 which is an incredible amount that allows YPCS to counsel another 13 young people during 2018.

A massive thank you to everyone who took part in the event & to Equiniti Plc for their support.

Conquer the Coals for YPCS

Firewalking is an ancient ritual that has existed for thousands of years in many cultures around the world. As a demonstration of courage and faith it has traditionally symbolised an acolyte’s ability to conquer both inner doubt and a primordial fear of the destructive power of the flames.

In 2018 YPCS invites the brave to take the challenge and raise money for young people at Stilton’s famous Talbot Inn. This friendly village pub, once home to the rituals of Stilton’s Ancient Order of Foresters will host the fiery spectacle on the 20th October.

Participants will take a barefoot walk over red-hot embers measuring around 800 degrees and younger guests and pyrophobes will be able to walk a virtual firewalk created by Young Technicians CIC.

Spectators will be treated to a stunning fire show by Kitty Devereux, a performer who has entertained crowds at some of the UK’s biggest festivals.
